This is a gem of a violin from prolific pre-war Mittenwald violin makers Neuner & Hornsteiner (closed shop in 1929). This beautiful copy of a Stradivarius arrived with some varnish issues that required cleaning up, primarily a poor French polish on the top that was probably done to protect her only two crack repairs. Two older repaired cracks on the bass side run from the bass side f-hole running with the grain to the saddle and the middle of the chinrest. Although easily observable, the repairs are sound, not overly distracting, and do not impact the soundpost or bass bar (the saddle crack comes close to the bass bar but is not under the bar). These top plate crack repairs have been well done. In addition to the varnish cleanup, open rib/top plate seams required hot hide glue and clamping. The seam repairs are also sound, and this violin is entirely performance-ready. Additional work on this fine violin included cleaning up and dressing the original ebony fingerboard, re-fitting the existing bridge, and fitting a vintage set of French ebony pegs. This violin had been sitting for some time as many hours were spent cleaning the dirt and grime from the instrument (there are a lot of Q-tips in my shop trash can:). She is strung with new Dominant synthetic-core strings. This violin comes with the poor bow she arrived with and a nice unbranded bow (appears to be pernambuco), with a sound sample of the bow pairing available upon request.

She comes with her original case, which is in good shape for over 100 years old and has the original thin metal handle. This violin is a true gem with beautiful golden inlaid purfling on top and back, medium-grained spruce top, flamed maple two-piece back, ribs, neck, and scroll. This is a higher-grade violin from the Neuner & Hornsteiner workshop in Mittenwald, and her playing test did not disappoint. She has excellent responsiveness to bow and a warm and clear tone in both registers, with superb color and deep resonance. I can't recall another violin that my son couldn't stop playing after a playing test. Tone evaluation is subjective, so please view the sound sample videos and judge for yourself.

This violin would serve an advanced student violinist or a professional player well.

I am a lifelong woodworker from a family of musicians (yep, that's my son playing in the video:) with a love for these old instruments. I am not a storefront, and I do not charge high storefront prices for my work. As such, I do not wish to enter into returns, so please view the high-resolution photos carefully, ask questions, and watch/listen to the video before purchasing. I only sell and ship to the lower 48 states.

**Sorry, I do not sell my instruments to flippers. If you are a re-seller looking to flip this violin, please shop elsewhere.

Thank you for your interest!
