Penzel-Mueller FULL BOEHM Bb Clarinet
Serial #7496

Here we have a pre WWII instrument made in Long Island City, NY. The P-M catalog does not show Full Boehm clarinets after the war. Likely made between 1910-1920. Original case and mouthpiece included.

This Full Boehm clarinet is configured as an 18/7 with low Eb and forked LH Bb/Eb, and has several helpful advantages.

1. The low Eb fingering can also be used for the throat Bb because of the extra length of the lower joint. This sounds quite good and is convenient for a trill.

2. The articulated G#/C# is perhaps the most helpful. You can trill with your right index finger. When you play in keys with either four flats or sharps you always keep the G# key down. When you precede it with F#, the G# comes out very easily without the blip that everyone else experiences or can experience.

3. A third ring for the left hand is for the fork Eb (clarion) and Bb (altissimo), fingered with the first and third fingers of the left hand rendering the fingering of either of these notes a simple matter by simply lifting the middle left-hand finger.

4. On a standard Boehm clarinet the low Ab/G# (high Eb/D#) can only be fingered with the RH pinky. The Full Boehm has an extra key for the left hand making many fingerings easier. At least the player doesn't have to think ahead about needing to use the LH high B, C, or C# (low E, F, F#) if the next note is to be high Eb/D# or low Ab/Eb.

This fine instrument has had a full inspection and play test in our pro shop, and is ready to rock. New more detailed pictures from our photographer will be uploaded soon!
