1987 65th Anniversary of SLM (St. Louis Music is the U.S. importer of the Alvarez Yairi) Alvarez Yairi DY39 made by Kazuo Yairi with a signed label. We sell many Alvarez Yairis, but we have never had this model and one this clean! And, as with all the Yairis we have ever sold, it plays and sounds great. A gold plate on the back of the headstock is engraved with ”Alvarez Yairi DY39 Anniversary Edition SLM 1922-1987 #20180” (which is probably the number of the Anniversary Editions, since the serial number on the inside label is 70350). It is in excellent condition in every way, showing only minimal wear. A little fret wear in the first three frets under the “B” string (which is normal for a 27-year-old guitar), a little top wear to the left of the pickguard near the soundhole (see closeup photo), a few marks on the back of the neck behind the 9th fret (see closeup photo), and some very slight marks on the back of the neck behind the first and second frets (see closeup photos). Solid Spruce top with a very straight, even grain, beautiful rosewood back and sides. One small mark on the upper right top with a very slight surface scratch (see closeup photo). The Mahogany neck is very straight. Nut width is 1 11/16". Rosewood fingerboard and bridge.  Six-ply top binding and single-bound back with a neck heel cap. Gold Grover tuning keys. Very ornate 12th fret position marker. The string height is 3/32 inch at the 12th fret. The neck is very straight. Eight-ply soundhole trim ring surrounded by two 5-band rings. At one time, it probably had a bridge saddle pickup, since the end pin input jack is still there. As far as we can tell, it is not working. We did not remove the saddle to see if it was there, so assume that it is not. However, we are including a Bill Lawrence Acoustic soundhole pickup that can easily be attached to the input jack (a $45 value). It will ship in a very nice 4-latch black hardshell case with gray lining.
