Advent 201 High Performance Cassette Recording System

This deck is in excellent condition for the age. Belonged to a audiofile that used it to make tapes of his vinyl records. Kept in a smoke free home.

Tested the play, stop, rewind, fast forwad, eject, and output level knob and all work well. Haven't tried the record function but I assume it's working fine. I'm not a tech so I didn't check all the electronic components in depth. It may need something I'm not aware of but as mentioned before it was kept in very good condition and I doubt it was used much in the last few years. I believe these came with a plastic cover that's long gone now.

The Advent 201 is a stereo cassette deck with Dolby B noise reduction, it was introduced by Advent in 1971 with a list price of USD $280 and discontinued 5 years later in 1976.

The main features of the Advent 201 are: 2 heads, analog 3 digit tape counter, manual tape type selection with support for normal and chrome tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport.

Typical of this deck is the 70's top loading layout with the cassette compartiment located on the center of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.

Level meters used on the 201 is a single analog needle VU reading meter. Mechanical transport controls for reliable 201 transport function selection.

The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the 201 by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies.
