Am listing for sale my early/mid 60’s short scale Japanese Bass guitar. I've been playing this one for a few days and it plays and sounds great.

I found a cool 60's chipboard bass bass so am including it with the guitar. Funky but could be cleaned up. New pics added.

I’ve seen this bass identified as an early sixties Fujigen Gakki bass and also as a mid-sixties Teisco “Tuxedo” bass. The original pickup died so has been replaced.

The bass itself is very well made, has style, and plays well. The new pickup is an inexpensive Hofner style pickup that is clean and loud (11.2 resistance @ 200K ohm). The neck is slightly bowed, the action is a bit high but all notes play up and down the fretboard.  The truss rod turns - and turns and turns - so it is no longer working. The D size fat neck and 30 inch scale is an unusual combination and makes the bass feel hefty when playing.

Frets are full, the fretboard is clean, the black body may have been repainted at some point but is fairly clean. No flaking and some small nicks on the sides have been touched up.

The metal pickguard is in very good shape and the wiring is clean. The knobs are original as far as I can tell. The tailpiece/bridge is well designed and allows for nice height and intonation adjustment. The original cover is gone.

The strings are Dunlop 45-105’s that have been played for six months or so but still have good life in them.

Local pickup can be arranged.

I have a number of other vintage 60's guitars for sale in my Reverb shop - feel free to check them out and let me know if you have any questions.
