***I will be listing a quite possibly a literal TON of cool things over the next few weeks, so make sure and check out my other items!!!***

Well. I just spent the better part of the day careening down the Mike Battle/Echoplex/Market Electronics vs. CMI made rabbit hole. And let me tell you, it was quite a ride. There's a lot of information -- both factual and complete hearsay.

So.
What you're looking at here is one of the first production of 500, Market Electronics-made, Don Dixon/Mike Battle/John Battle-designed, small grey box (which is known to fade into a greenin-ish color over time), Echoplex EP-1.
We know it's early as there is NO designation of "EP-1" anywhere. Later upgrades would necessitate the EP-1 name be applied posthumously.
Also easily distinguished from later versions is the smaller box and separate controls for echo volume and instrument volume. The color of the box also marks it's place. Brown boxes were used until supply ran out and then switched to grey. Both brown and grey boxes were small (compared to later models), but taller to facilitate the EP-1’s removable metal cover for the tape cartridge and heads that included a bracket for wrapping the AC and attached output cables.
The potentiometers, all date to the 15th week of 1964.
Serial number 377, with "Patents Pending" printed below (pic #15). The 377 is also penciled on the underside of the removable metal cover for the tape cartridge and heads (pic #16).

There are OBVIOUSLY some parts missing (the control knobs and he two 6EU7 tubes, to name a couple)/broken (the handle to the box is included -- see last pic), things changed/modded/added, potentially dead components, etc etc, but the bones are still great and there is hope to revive this piece of history!

The unit DOES power on, however, please PLEASE remember, THIS UNIT IS BEING SOLD AS-IS and NON-FUNCTIONING AND SERVICE WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAKE IT WORK PROPERLY!!!

I will be listing quite a number of super cool Japanese, American
and some British fuzzes and other effects here in the next few weeks, as well as some amps and guitars. So pay attention.
Ask any questions. I will do my best to answer them.
I will entertain the idea of shipping overseas, but you MUST contact me beforehand as the shipping will be more than the quoted amount.

THANK YOU!!!***

***PLEASE READ BELOW!!!***

I am not a shop. I am an individual seller.
I will not make sound clips or videos, as I do not have the time or proper equipment to do so.
Please do not ask me to take apart, disassemble or take pictures of things. I will provide all necessary information as it's in my best interest to represent everything I'm selling in the best way possible.
If you have never owned a piece of vintage musical gear, do your own due diligence and buy/make an offer accordingly.
And speaking of offers, please do not waste my time or yours by low-balling me. I am accepting offers again because it's easier than getting a bunch of messages. But I do not care about how you're "willing to give this pedal/amp/guitar/etc etc a try" for such and such amount. I don't care if you've been collecting or playing or whatever for 10, 20 or a hundred years. I'm always glad to have a chat and hear some stories, but I absolutely cannot stand tire kickers.

Okay, I'm done.
Thanks for reading.
