Mother Plucker is a custom guitar builder out of Kentucky. This is, in Mother Plucker's words, an "experimental, prototype, split-body" Sophia, weighing in just at or over 5 lbs. It was initially sold in Spring 2020. I believe I am the third owner, but I've been more of a caretaker than a player of this guitar. I've not owned this guitar long, but, due to financial obligations, I've got to let it go, and haven't put any wear on it.
To me, it's kind of like a Les Paul and a Viola went on an acid trip while listening to a bunch of prog metal. It's definitely a shredder's guitar with a twisted classical undertone, but it would fit in well with almost any modern genre.
From what I understand, this is the only version of this guitar that was ever made due to the complexity of the build. The gap between the top and back of the guitar is masterfully made, resulting in a very strong guitar that is lightweight and incredibly resonant.
I do not have a full list of specs and measurements for this instrument and I don't own calipers, but I can do my best to answer any detailed questions you might have. I've listed the specs I do have at the bottom of this post.
Here's a few things of note:
- This was recently serviced by One Three Guitar in Richmond, VA. It currently has a set of NYXL 10-46's, and action is incredibly low.
- While I was unable to confirm this, the fretboard material is *likely* flame maple. The knobs are made from the same slab of wood.
- The fretboard radius is unknown, but is likely flatter than 9.5".
- The pickups were initially active EMGs, but are now passive Instrumentals. I think they're SFTY4-6 and Decomp, but I'm not 100% positive. The battery box is still in place if you wish to put in actives in the future.
- The neck isn't super thin but it's not chunky either. To my hands, it feels like a modern Fender neck. It's very comfortable but still gives you something to grip onto.
- There is some light scratching on the headstock where the strings (particularly the low E) rub ever-so-slightly against the wood. It's not visible unless you're looking for it or during string changes.
- This comes with a rectangular hardshell case badged with the Mother Plucker logo. All original case goodies (catalog, business cards, case key, etc.) are inside. Admittedly, it's not the best case and is a little big for this guitar. It's never caused me issues, but I'll make sure it's extra padded if shipped.
