Perkins 57 Korina Futura Ponty Gonzales Tribute Brazilian / Korina

A korina classic. This guitar was patterned after the korina guitar made famous by Ponty Gonzales and Kurt Linhof. Hand made from a 1 piece korina body blank and templating from Max Baranet. The unique body and design have become legendary in the korina arena.

Weighing in at 8 lbs 7.4 Oz this guitar is a perfect medium weight and has nice balance.

The neck profile is a large soft v at the first fret measuring .93” and becomes a soft c at the 11th where it’s 1.03”. Neck joint at the 18th fret mates the body and neck at a 3.5 degree angle with the Angle sloped into the body until the end of the fingerboard. It’s very comfortable for such a large neck, the shape makes it feel and play more like what you would expect from a 50s LP.

The fingerboard is made from very old black Brazilian rosewood and features the vintage spec rule of 18 scale length.

Korina neck to match with a 17 degree headstock angle and split v style headstock. There is a vintage spec 3/16” truss Rod with a swooped truss Rod channel for a perfectly functioning neck and no buzz like some of the early guitars. it was set up with a bone nut and a little larger 59 sized fret wire for the best sound and playability.

The finish begins with a wheat colored pore filler and nitrocellulose lacquer that has been painstakingly aged and reliced to turn a golden color while retaining its light korina / wheat color under the parts and plastic components. Light weather checking and typical old school wear and weathering on the fretboard edges. It’s not as heavily worn as Ponty’s and still looks really amazing.

Hot Hide glue construction. Old school nitro finish and was completed using old plastic sheet stock for the parts and Kluson gold hardware.

Seymour Duncan 59s with gold hardware and a cts 500k harness with Luxe phone book capacitor for korina. The pickups are mounted with butyrate m-69 rings with the vintage tooling.

The guitar was professionally set up and plays like a dream. I find these to be a little bit more ergonomic than a X style guitar and the tone is unreal.

This guitar will ship in a black Hardshell case with reverb safe shipping packaged up tight like ft Knox.

It’s a big package, shipping and insurance will be $150 to the lower 48.
