1945 Webster-Chicago Model 288-1 Wire Recorder.. This is one of the first mass-produced recording devices. After WWII private recording equipment was a whole new expe-1 rimental field. This unit uses reels of wire as media. Produced in Chicago USA. Uses vacuum tube technology . Comes with complete carrying case, wire spool, and original cord as shown.

This one has auto shutoff when the wire ends or if it jams up. Also has 2 tension arms like a tape recorder. Has a clock face wire time readout. Has one more tube than a model 80. This one can even be threaded easily with one hand. Another cool feature is that is has a quick release take up hub so it can be swapped with a spare so you can start recording on a fresh spool of wire without waiting for the first one to rewind first.
