When you hold this 1981 Candy Apple Red Tokai SS-60 Silver Star in your hands it is just so obvious while these Japan built replicas of classic Strats are so popular amongst players and collectors. They have all of the look, feel, and play of some of the best Strats ever built.

The SS-60 is one of the top two Silver Star models that Tokai used some better parts on – especially the pickups. In fact here is how Tokai described the SS-Super pickups at the time: “wide-range single-coil pickup specially developed for the SS series. Provides the well-balanced and versatile sound characteristic of the modern Strat. Renowned as one of the best pickups for effects, it delivers beautifully live or in the studio. A truly powerful pickup demonstrating 100% of the true appeal of the single-coil sound.”

In addition to the pickups, this model had other nice upgrades from the factory over the base models.  The tuners, for example, are much smoother working Schaller style. The SS-60 got Tokai’s ‘Long Sustain Bridge’ which features solid brass key-hole saddles, which were ONLY used on the top two Silver Star models

The guitar is perfectly setup. Incredible feel on the maple neck. Action on the rosewood board low and straight. Perfectly intonated and really hard to put down. It is light, very resonant, has incredible feel, and just sings.

We replaced one frozen pot. I believe the rest of the electronics to be original. One volume, two tones and a 5 way switch.

The listing is for the SS-60 only but will ship in a basic padded gigbag. I do not have the trem arm. Aesthetically to me this guitar is actual relic perfection. Some minor dings and nicks but nothing egregious. Pics are all of the actual guitar you will happily unpack.

I would also welcome you to drop by the renovated showroom in Levittown and take any guitar, pedal or amp for a test drive! The final pic is our new electric wall. What do you think of it?
