Big River “Moses“
Up for sale is a brand new Big River “Moses” HS-T-Style guitar. The body is made from Catalpa, which is similar to Ash but considerably lighter. The finish is an open grained finish that is smooth to the touch, with our custom mixed Eat A Peach Nitro finish. This idea came from a custom order that never came to fruition. Initially we were kicking around an idea of a limited Fender run of their Pacific Peach exclusively for the CME. So like them I have built a trio; and S-Style, T-Style and JM-Style all with our Eat a Peach Nitro, so stay tuned for the other two, they are almost finished.
Any way I prepped the body and popped the grain and gave it 3 thin base coats, then sanded with 400. Then added 3 more coats and sanded with 600. Finally I laid down three more coats, then three coats of clear nitro and finished with a light sanding with 1000. So this has a light gloss finish to it that is smooth to the touch while still allowing the Catalpa’s wicked grain pattern to be the main focus. I have found, and have gotten feedback from customers who have purchased our open grained nitro finished guitar, that these are incredibly resonant.
The neck is one of our standard licensed Big River necks you find on all of our custom builds. Roasted maple with a rosewood fret board. 22 medium jumbo nickel frets that are rounded at the ends, a medium C shape, 9.5” radius, bone nut with Kluson Vintage style tuners. Our necks are finished with several thin coats of lacquer with an ultra smooth satin finish. I went with a Gotoh “In Tune” Bridge with compensated brass saddles.
For the electronics I built a harness using an Oak 3way switch, 500k CTS pots with a .033 Mallory Mustard Cap, a treble bleed, PureTone four pronged input jack for added security and Gavitt Cloth pushback wire throughout.
For the HS setup, I went with a Lollar Low Wind Imperial in the neck which is their take on the classic 50‘s PAF. With the lower wind you get more treble response with a tighter low end. In the bridge you’ll find a Lollar J Street. This hotter version of the Special T gives you a fat low end, more upper midrange, and a top end closer to P-90s and humbuckers with its flat-pole design, graded Alnico 5 magnets, wax potted coils, and vintage-style cloth covered lead wire and bridge plate.
This is a beautiful tele that sounds and plays incredible. With summer quickly approaching, this guitar screams “play me at all of your outdoor shows” as it’s the perfect addition for the gigging and studio musician.

Here at Big River we've started doing our
own Nitro finishing on guitars. We mix our
own colors to try and closely match the
classic colors of the golden age of Strats
and Tele's . We are also mixing some
more modern Fender colors as well.
Some guitars will be relic'd, some will just
have that incredible old school feel.
Check back often to see what other
Strats and Tele's we turn into great
looking great sounding quitars.
My instruments receive a full setup, with a
deep body/neck cleaning and polish. All
gloss maple boards are polished, while all
rosewood/darker boards receive an F1 &
lemon oil treatment. make sure all
electronics are in working order and if
something under the hood needs to be
changed, I make that determination
based upon what type/year guitar im
working on. But either way I am upfront in
my listing. Guitars are set up with
D'Addario XL 9-42's. Action is checked.
and adjusted to Low-Med if necessary.
and tuning and intonation is set on all
instruments before I pack them to ship.
It always made me feel good when i
pulled a guitar out of a box and basically
only had to tune it up to pitch and away
you go, so I try to afford you the buyer, of
that same courtesy. Understand though
set ups are a truly personal thing. I
cannot guarantee everything but I try to
use the bell curve when it comes to
setting up instruments, so even if there is
something you wanted changed it is not a
big ordeal. Feel free to ask if there is
something specific you would like.
Anywho thank you for checking us out, if
you have any questions feel free to ask, if
there are any upgrades you wish to have
done on any guitar, let me know and I
promise I will be incredibly fair when
offering quotes for upgrades. Even if you
know you want to upgrade for example
the stock pickups on a MIM Fender Tele
but don't know to what, shoot me a
message, I have knowledge on a wide
range tonal options.
