Snare Drum - J&J Custom DrumWorks RestoMod Pearl VPX Limited Edition Snare Drum

This J&J Custom DrumWorks RestoMod Snare Drum began as a Pearl VPX1455S Limited Edition Snare Drum, Silver Sparkle. The pictures illustrate the before and after. The original shell had a rough unfinished interior, uneven bearing edges and snare bed; which is common with many economy drums. In addition, the batter side and snare side bearing edges had numerus nicks. The bearing edges and snare bed were repaired and modified to our specifications. Two coats of stain were applied to the shell interior, bearing edges and share bed; then hand burnished. Four light to medium layers of clear satin lacquer were applied, and hand burnished with #0000 supper fine steel wool after each application.

My intent here is to show that any Drummer who would like to upgrade or customize their snare drum can do so on a budget using basic tools. The only power tool I used on this project was a cordless drill.

This snare now has a rich, warm, round tone with reduced harmonic overtones.  In addition, looks great.
