This is a very nice, unique, little tube amp from around 1960. It was sold under the Truetone brand name, which was associated with Western Auto, but I believe it was made in Japan. It features built-in tremolo with foot switch, all-tube design and an 8” speaker. 3-prong plug has been added, and a few bad capacitors were replaced. Aside from that it’s in excellent, original condition.

The tremolo in this unit did not use an optocoupler, it achieved oscillation with capacitors and resistors only. This means there’s no light to go out, and it provides a unique style of oscillation that to my ear is very pleasant. This amp is not loud at all; I would guess it‘s maybe 3W max, but it provides a really nice, very clean sound. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a tube amp you can open up all the way in your bedroom without making your eardrums bleed, all at a bargain price. Add a little drive from the guitar and a pedal and you get a killer tone that’s somewhere between rockabilly and surf.
