Up for sale, a 2000s Mosrite Ventures Model '64 vintage reissue bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Finished in Pearl White, this rare Ventures Model bass was produced by Mosrite's official licensee, Fillmore, produced in much smaller quantities than their highly sought after Ventures Model guitars. Fillmore's instruments are among the finest ever offered under the Mosrite banner, adhering faithfully to early '60s spec in their tonal response and features, with tight tolerances and exquisite fit and finish work.
A short scale affair with a 30 1/2" scale length, this Mosrite is strung with 45-100 roundwound strings, and the natural acoustic properties of the body offer a smooth, even-sounding tonal platform for the single coil pickup. Wound to vintage spec at a particularly hot 13.2k ohms, the pickup is ideally positioned for broad thump and midrange growl, with a thick, punchy quality. Weighing 8lbs 3oz, this Mosrite has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in all registers, staying relatively consistent in terms of heft and roundness when traveling up the neck, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard sports small dot inlay, and the stock slender fretwire is practically perfect, with just a hint of wear beneath the strings on frets 1-5. This bass plays cleanly up the 30 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The fretboard width is 1 9/16” at the zero fret, just forward of the aluminum nut. On the headstock, the “The Ventures” text is present, which would not be seen on later Fillmore examples, and the stock set of clover-button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with a light dusting of surface patina on their nickel plating. The serial number is stamped into the rosewood on the last fret, consistent with '60s Mosrite production.
On the body, all of the electronics function as intended, with original 500K DiMarzio pots. Hardware includes the original pair of machined, smooth-top Mosrite knobs, unusual four-saddle bridge fashioned from brass for additional treble clarity, rosewood/aluminum string anchor, and chrome bridge cover. The pickguard is an extremely dark tortoise, reading as black under most lighting conditions, yet with very subtle transparency and mottling in its tortoise material.
The gloss Pearl White finish exhibits gentle aging of the clear coat, and cosmetic wear includes one small finish chip on top, some minor nicks along the lower bout perimeter and on the top at the bass-side waist, and a handful of faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss is worn through to the bare maple on the majority of the neck profile for a particularly smooth, fast feel.
A padded gigbag is included.
