Rare opportunity to own a Neve 80s series console.  This 8014 is truly one of a kind and the perfect vintage companion to modern studio workflow.  Track and mix though Class A Neve electronics that is an experience unlike any other.

Console Specs:

  • 8014 Frame (based on the early Simpson VUs, Geoff Tanner believes it was actually a S16/4 - this was the designation for the 8014 before the 8000 naming convention was adopted).
  • Custom Fred Hill Monitor Facilities Section
  • Custom Shep 16 Channel Tape Return Section
  • 16 x Channel amps
    • 10 x 1073 (vintage)
    • 4 x 1066 (vintage)
    • 1 x 1084 (vintage)
    • 1 x 1073 (AMS Neve)
  • 16 x 1883 Routing Modules
  • 4 x 2254a Compressor/Limiters (one pair has been modded by Fred Hill to add variable attack times on the front of the unit - super handy for bus duties)
  • Full array of 1272 (15) line amps for various functions
  • 2 x 1889 Reverb Return Modules
  • Oscilator
  • Talkback Facilities
  • Speaker selector (2 pairs)
  • 2 x 96 point TT patch bays and console cabling (25’)
  • 2 x Power Supplies (one for LED meters and one for console)
  • “Custom” stand
  • Dimensions - 58.5 x 37 x 24 inches (it’s about the same size as an API 2448)
  • Connections to custom Patchbay on EDAC connectors.  XLR inputs for mics and speaker connections.

Modifications:

Neve guru Fred Hill went through this board about 10 years ago and added several useful modifications:

  • Custom monitor panel / facilities - there are lots of useful features here, but the main thing to know is that Fred added a “mixdown” mode which allows the 16 channel monitor return section to feed the main stereo bus, giving you a total of 32 (34 if you utilize the 2 reverb return units) being summed down to the main stereo bus when mixing.
  • Bus architecture has been modified to work as you would expect (Bus 1 / 2 are a pair and Bus 3 / 4 are a pair).  You also have access to a mix bus insert on your main stereo out.
  • 8 channel tape return section was replaced with a 16 Channel passive Shep custom return section that is packed with useful features including 2 holdback sends and one reverb send per channel (independent of the FB/Rev sends on the main routing modules, although you are able to combine them all if desired).  Again, this can be fed directly to Bus 1/2.
  • Patchbay was remoted making the desk a great size for almost any room.

Spares:

Included with the console are several spares including:

  • Spare 1272 module
  • 2 x spare 1889 rev return modules
  • 1883 fame fronts loaded with various pots, switches, caps, etc.
  • Original monitor section
  • Original 8 channel tape return section
  • ~80 new Isostat switches
  • Various switch caps, extra switches, etc.
  • 10 x Reproduction 18 pin module connector pairs

Documentation:

I have a copy of an 8014 manual that will be included, but more importantly I have PDFs of all of Fred Hill’s (fantastic) documentation of all mods, patchbay, layouts, etc.  This is worth its weight in gold as it gives a tech an excellent picture the console, saving time and tail chasing.

I had a tech spend about a week servicing the desk in March 2023.  I can provide his report upon request.  I am here to answer any and all of your questions I can - I love talking vintage Neve!  Thanks for your interest! Note: I’m interested in partial trades for vintage mics and outboard.

Also I’m willing to deliver this pretty much anywhere in the US if the deal is right!
