LAB SERIES L5 AMPLIFIER 2X12 COMBO 308A GIBSON MOOG DESIGNED
AMP
Everyone knows it as the “B.B. King” amp, but it’s also the
Ronnie Montrose amp—and the Ty Tabor amp. It’s simply a kick-ass, solid-state
amp. There is an immediacy of the older solid-state amps—they’re so punchy. The
old stuff is killin’. B.B.’s tone is great with the Lab Series. It’s warm and
creamy and much more consistent than a Twin.
The clean tone is excellent. The built-in distortion is OK,
but the amp sounds better with a good distortion pedal, or using a small,
overdriven tube amp as an overdrive. The parametric mid on the second channel
is very cool (one of the better two knob parametric mid controls made), as is
the built-in compressor. The reverb is pretty good except at extreme settings.
The multifilter is essentially a six-band EQ with fixed settings, where you
control only how much of the signal through it gets mixed back with the main
signal, sort of like a flanger's comb filter with the sweep set to zero. The
frequency centers are at 1000Hz, 1370Hz, 1900Hz, 2630Hz, 3630Hz and 5000 Hz. A
legendary solid state amp that gives you all you need in tone and adding pedal
in front only adds to the joy. Worth a look. Serial Number is 12821.
This Lab Series L5 Amplifier is being sold as used and comes
to you in solid VG condition. There are
minor marks and wear showing on the outside of the amp and is expected with an
amp of this age and normal use. All
inputs and controls on the Lab Series L5 work as they should with little noise.
All but the speakers are original and in the shape that allows you to use it on
gigs and such and not worry about taking out a newer amp. Sounds glorious. The
speakers are suspect to be replacements as we could not match the numbers with
any stock speakers used in the Lab Series amps. You will receive this item
well-packed, but not the original packaging or paperwork. Please contact this seller for additional
information. Returns are very limited
(damaged or erroneous in its description).
