Big Beautiful Vintage 1940s Kay K-46 Artist Jumbo 17” Master Size Acoustic Carved Archtop Guitar in Excellent Restored Condition, made in USA in the 40s!

Big Beautiful Vintage 1940s Kay K-46 Artist Jumbo 17” Master Size Acoustic Archtop Guitar, made by Kay between 1947 and 1951 in Chicago, USA. This professional grade “Artist” model features a 17” wide solid spruce carved top and beautiful curly flamed maple back and sides. Nice road worn tobacco sunburst finish with tons of honest wear. It has been carefully restored to excellent playing condition and it sounds incredible. It has an amazing vibe and tons of character, ready to tune up and play upon arrival. A protective soft case is included.

This K-46 Artist has some great features, including a 17” wide “Master” size body, 1-11/16” wide nut and a long 25-3/4” scale length. It’s got a nice chunky C profile curly maple neck with a triple bound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, pearl art-deco position markers, bound tortoiseshell headstock overlay with Kay logo and music notes, nice original open back Kluson tuning machines that are in excellent working condition, original tailpiece and a mint period correct Brazilian rosewood adjustable bridge. It has received a neck reset for optimum playability and has been set up with wonderful medium-low action, set at about 5/64” to 3/32” at 12th fret with new D ‘Addario 11-52 80/20 brass strings, with plenty of room to adjust the bridge in either direction. This has been fitted with a new shop-made lightly relic’d tortoiseshell floating pickguard and a new hand carved bone nut. The large body projects well, with a great full bass response and excellent clarity and string definition through the entire spectrum. It has an earthy, percussive tone that cuts through the mix while delivering tons of warmth and sustain. This old gal has plenty of dings, scratches and signs of wear, with some minor finish flaking in places. The original finish is very thin, contributing to it’s wonderful tone, and shows plenty of imperfections. There are capo marks and play wear on the back of the neck, with no cracks or crack repairs and no structural issues. The binding is in excellent condition with some minor shrinkage at the bottom back of the guitar. The original brass frets show some wear in the first position and have been lightly leveled and polished for smooth playability up and down the neck with no buzzing or issues. Offered with a protective soft case and packed and shipped with care and experience you can trust. Be sure to check out my other guitars for sale and thanks for looking!
