I have for sale here a c1936 National Duolian, that I extensively restored. When I received it, the headstock had been broken off, and was missing. The finish (originally silver Duco), had been stripped, and at some point it had been painted gold. After that, it obviously had been in a damp environment, it was quite rusty. Surprisingly, the original cone was still in excellent shape. I removed the neck from the body, the fretboard from the neck, and spliced a new headstock on. After the fretboard was removed, the neck ended up perfectly straight, and I inlaid two carbon fiber rods in the neck, which also continue into the headstock to further reinforce it. I removed the original frets, cleaned up the fretboard, and refretted it. The headstock overlay is patinated copper, the tuners are Stew-Mac Golden Age. The nut is black buffalo horn, and the neck is refinished in shaded nitrocellulose lacquer. I cleaned all the loose rust from the body, and sprayed two sealer coats of lacquer to clean it all up, and keep all the mojo intact. I helped the dent on the bottom somewhat, but it was never going to go back completely, it doesn’t cause any structural problem.
The guitar is set-up perfectly now, straight neck, new frets, and better than original tuners. Action is 7/64” at the twelfth fret, with about 1/4” height on the saddle (new saddle & biscuit). Best of all, the sound of this guitar is extraordinary, all you could want in a pre-war National. I will ship it in a beat hardshell case, really just to protect it during shipping. Tons of mojo, great playability, better structural stability than a new NRP, thanks to the carbon fiber rods, and amazing sound. Whats not to love!?
I do offer returns, the buyer only has to pay the return shipping cost. The buyer must notify me at once if they wish to return it. Shipping only to the continental US, please. Please check my feedback, and other listings for more reso/slide instruments.
