ITEM:

THE REAL THANG! Here's a recent arrival: A stunning 1982 Fender CBS Era Dan Smith Standard Stratocaster in its rich Sunburst finish w a non original Fender hard tweed case, having Serial Number E204535, and made in Fullerton, CA.
NOW LISTED AT A NEWLY REDUCED PRICE!

This is a used, previously owned vintage instrument with a heavy Northern Ash body. She weighs in at a robust 9 lbs, 12.5 oz. She's almost fully original, other than a replaced whammy bar and the aforementioned tweed case. A visually appealing axe with a very dark, almost dark chocolate border which offsets the red & yellow sunburst tonal hues. The grain pattern on the northern ash is very distinctive & bold front & back, & really stands out compared to an alder body Strat with the same type of finish. She is a stunner! See our VIDEO!

In researching this awesome instrument, it seems that there are always many more maple fingerboard “Smith” Strats available in any color finish & not nearly as many w rosewood fretboards. Not only is this a rare model, having been produced for essentially 1 year, but it also has a rosewood fingerboard!

DESCRIPTION & A BIT OF HISTORY:

In 1981, Dan Smith was hired as the new director of marketing for Fender electric guitars. Smith revamped the production model Stratocaster & by late 1981, this new model was introduced as the Standard Stratocaster. This new Strat signaled the end of the 1970s style Stratocaster. This new model featured a smaller version of the Pre-CBS headstock, a return to the beloved 4 bolt neck plate, a body end truss rod adjustment, and an X-1 pickup in the bridge position(a hotter PUP which was retained from the 1980 "Strat" model).

**Our thanks to the “Strat Collector” website for their fantastic information about everything Stratocaster!**

CONDITION:

Guitar is in very good+ condition, in our opinion. Cosmetically, there are some minor marks & tiny dings from light play wear(please view our specific pix). No cracks, splits, weather checking, burns, case wear, corrosion, etc. There are 3 distinctive areas of finish wear thru the nitrocellulose, specifically on the lower bass bout, on the rear of bass bout side near the lower horn & on the bottom of the body near the strap pin.

Tuners are the “F “stamped Fender tuners which work freely. Controls are all fully functional (1 volume & 2 tone controls), pick ups perform as they should as does the five way pick up selector switch. Bridge is very solid and intonation is solid as well. The extremely elusive ashtray bridge cover is AWOL(wtf happens to these damned things?).
Whammy and tremolo system both work well and easily.
Guitar underwent a full professional set up. All maintenance was performed, including buffing out body & fretboard, adjustments to neck & action, set intonation, cleaned electronics, sanded & buffed out dings from frets, adjusted pickup heights, etc. New set of strings were installed.
All work was performed by Dave Fecca Guitar Repair, Moorestown, NJ.  Dave, aka “Catfish”, along with his spouse, April Mae, are the co-founders of April Mae & The Junebugs, a very popular & accomplished Americana/Roots/Jump Blues, Rockabilly, etc, band which has recorded & performed extensively throughout the US since 2010.
