For sale is my 1937 Supertone Archtop guitar. This is a 2/3 sized, 14 fret archtop. It features a solid, carved spruce top, solid mahogany carve back and solid mahogany sides. The finish is a dark tobacco sunburst. The Supertone brand of guitars was a private label of the Sears & Roebuck Co. and was sold in their stores and catalogs. The Chicago manufacturers of Supertone guitars of this era included Regal, Harmony and Lyon & Healy. Based on the tailpiece hardware, my guess is that this guitar was made by Regal guitars. The pick guard is a black bakelite plastic and is original. The adjustable bridge is not original. When I inherited this guitar 30 years ago it had no bridge. The guitar has a large front crack and back crack that were expertly cleated and repaired many years ago. The finish was oversprayed with the thin varnish used at the time. This guitar has been stable for the 30 years I have owned and played it. It is set up with low action and plays with very good intonation. The fret board features stenciled position markers, typically featured on lower priced instruments. The tuners are open back and work just fine. I do not have a case to offer with this purchase. Please note that I will only ship to the lower 48 Continental United States of America. To avoid shipping costs I am happy to meet anyone half way up to a distance of 100 miles from the Chicago, IL area.
