A 16-channel bandpass filter with integrated analysis and synthesis capability, the 296e can function as a real-time performance filter, a programmable composite equalizer and even as a spectrum transfer vocoder.
The center frequencies are selected to complement the discrimination curve of the ear. Each frequency band has its own VCA input and envelope subnetting output, allowing for quite intricate transformations. The 296e can be divided into two 8-band filters, with internally provided vocoding interconnections, or two 296e can be cascaded (with a back-to-panel connection) with a spectral analysis performed, and the other synthesis.
A single user interface can present instant envelopes, thus creating real-time spectrum visualization, or two real-time response curves can be entered, stored and edited. Modulation can be applied to the response curves, creating some rather strange effects, and a "frozen" installation allows the storage of instant envelopes.
Decay times for the envelope are adjustable and pre-emphasis can be applied to smooth the frequency response when encoding the voice.
The 296e's firmware exceeds the capacity of the memory card; our new firmware card compatible with 200eUSB MAC is required to download new firmware.
