Roost SR20 50w amp head
An ultra-rare example of British Hiwattish/Sound Cityesque greatness.
I believe that this amp was born in the mid-'70s. It is definitely an earlier Roost, as evidenced by the model name (It was changed to SR50 later on), Partridge Transformers (later Roosts did not use Partridge), and metal switches (plastic on later models).
Features:
50 watts
4 inputs (Normal High/Normal Low, Bright High/Bright Low)
4ohm/8ohm/16ohm impedance selector
Voltage selector
Bright switch and mid-boost switch
Functional condition is excellent. My tech gave the amp a check-up and declared it healthy, requiring only a biasing of the power tubes (a pair of Winged C EL-34s are in there). At my request, he changed the value of the "Bright Cap" to tame the bright inputs, which were insanely trebly.
Cosmetic condition is fair. Plenty of scuffs and scratches, and the rear plate has a weird bubbling thing happening. There are two mystery holes (covered by electrical tape) in the rear panel; an effects loop that was added and removed at some point is my guess.
Not original to the amp are the cap mod, replaced 3-prong power cord, tubes, tand the aforementioned rear panel mystery holes.
Overall: it's a killer amp, and has served me well, with no issues whatsoever. It's a great choice if you wish the Sound City MKIVs amps had passive tone stacks rather than active, and/or can't afford a vintage Hiwatt or Marshall Plexi. Selling because I am searching for a 100w Roost. I play in one of those overpowered/undertuned bands, and would like 4 EL34s under the hood.
