What we have here is one of the most rare Fuzz Face pedals ever made - if not the most rare outside of Hendrix's gear locker! Only 51 exist - each built by hand by the preeminent pedal engineer for the world's most important guitarists. I got it in a trade - neither myself or the trader knew its true significance.

In 1997, The Edge of U2 asked Sam MCrae (legendary genius pedal engineer & longtime employee + now head of R&D for Dunlop & MXR) to create a special Fuzz Face for his famous "747" guitar sound set up. In particular, The Edge wanted a pedal to duplicate onstage the roaring sound in U2 songs like "Mofo" & "Gone." He had some technical requests for McCrae, however: he wanted a germanium-based Fuzz Face - but wanted LED power light, the ability to accept a 9V adapter, & most importantly, have a special buffer so that the Fuzz Face could be placed before a wah pedal in his chain (traditional Fuzz Face models start oscillating wildly when typically put before wahs).

McCrae then went into the Dunlop lab & hand built a Fuzz Face exactly to The Edge's specs - hand cleaning the components & so on, customizing it especially for The Edge by including the guitarist's signature lightning bolt symbol. McCrae called it the "SMG2 Mod" Fuzz Face. "SM" stands for Sam McCrae; "G2" stands for the two germanium circuits that give this pedal its own distinct Fuzz Face vibe. The red covering doesn't just look cool but seems indestructible & the necessary "Dallas-Arbiter England" badging is there for some historical retro cool!

The sound is amazing: it's totally classic Fuzz Face germanium sound, but.... crisper. It's hard to define, but it cuts through a little more while retaining that liquid, woolly, warm Fuzz Face germanium sound. It's almost if a germanium Fuzz Face thought it was a silicon one, but in fact... wasn't, but celebrated this identity crisis instead with sonic panache. It's the total fuzz sound that you want - but has a hint of crispy distortion that makes it really present.

So how do I know all this is true? Because I couldn't find much of anything about this pedal when I got it - so I called Sam McCrae myself at Dunlop. He told me he'd created 51 of the SMG2 Fuzz Faces - gave one to The Edge, put one in the Dunlop vault, & gave the rest away to the most significant guitarists he worked with.

So elephant in the room: why am I selling this most unique piece of gear? Because it's so rare it kind of freaks me out! I really am a player, & just feel nervous playing this: I feel it should go either into a collector's hands or a player richer than me who can afford to bring such dear gear onstage!

In terms of condition, it looks pretty much brand new except for a little dirt/dust collecting the rubber where it says "Dallas-Arbiter England" & some of the usual crap caught in the velcro on the bottom. If you're an obsessive fan of U2 & The Edge's playing/rig - or just want a tone that only 50 other guitarists in the world have - well, there is no substitute!

Obviously, I am selling this - however, if you want to trade some Lollar bass pickups, lemme know. Dazzle me. Intrigue me.

Thank you. You rule, clearly, if you've gotten this far... BTW, I have 100% customer satisfaction as a seller on Reverb & also on eBay under the name WolvesCastNoShadow. Get in touch with any questions.

Thank you again for your consideration. It is appreciated by the working musicians of America & the world - along with the not-as-employed other ones.

RETURNS: Selling this "As-Is'... But "As-Is" here means "totally functional & awesome," so it shouldn't be a problem. However, I do want you to be satisfied, so we can discuss/address any returns situation individually. No bigs. Per that, what you will be getting is exactly what is in the photos - so please check 'em out & ask any questions you may have before purchasing...

SHIPPING IN U.S.A.: I will give a $10.00 refund for local pickup in Los Angeles. Anything to not have to go to the post office & immerse myself in the wild world of bubble wrap & cardboard...

SHIPPING OUTSIDE OF U.S.A.: I will charge pretty much just whatever it costs to ship to your far away land & nothing beyond - well, except for a small packaging/pain-in-the-butt-compensation fee of $6.00. If you want me to send to a country notorious for packages getting lost, etc., the pain-in-the-butt-compensation charge rises to $10.00 + actual shipping fees. (Don't mean to play favorites - but I'm looking at you, Italy & India...) I make such random & arbitrary decisions upon my own discretion - i.e., it largely depends whether or not I've had my lunch. Once fed, however, I'm typically quite agreeable... (Just ate - so act fast!)
