Proto Guitars Toaster Pickups - Custom Colors - Rickenbacker replacement

This listing is for a single Proto Guitars Toaster pickup. This is a direct drop-in replacement for a Rickenbacker pickup for guitar OR bass.

Ever wanted to replace your anemic or way over-wound new Rick pickup? Trying to nail that classic Rick sound? There aren't very many options out there, and the few companies that do make replacements are often very expensive and very far off from the originals. Our Toasters are traditional single coils, but we use Alnico magnets instead of the newer harsh ceramics that you'll find from other builders. Ditch those hi-gain bricks and put some warmth, balance and tone back in your Rick.

We can do different color inserts including traditional black, gold or silver sparkle (as seen in pics above) and now offer powder-coated colors on the chromse as well!!! If you want a custom insert or color cover, just let us know. 

For the SERIOUS Beatles nerd, we now offer wide magnet AlNiCo2 poles and 44g wire for a completely authentic reproduction of John's 62-64 pickups. These magnets are custom order and might extend delivery time a bit, but are doable and sound great! (NOW IN STOCK FOR IMMEDIATE BUILDS DUE TO DEMAND)

Our toasters are also available with 'short magnets' for those who need a flush mount pickup for their strange model Rick neck postition or if you want to use these Toasters on a Telecaster or other flat-top guitar. 

Dimensions for a Toaster with the traditional LONG poles are 3.51" wide x 1.45" total height.

We do everything by hand here at Proto. We polish, buff, age, stain, relic and style our covers to order. We laser-cut our own bobbins to perfectly fit in to any cover, regardless of build. This means that we can make a true p90 in a humbucker size, or a true humbucker in a p90 size, or a huge wide single coil strat pickup in a humbucker size etc. etc. etc. We wind every coil by hand on our vintage Bobbineer Pickup Winding machine, just like Leo used, and have a large selection of magnets for different needs and uses. Once our pickups are built, we vacuum pot them in a bee's wax and paraffin mixture unlike any other pickup company. This procedure sucks the wax up inside the coils, as opposed to just coating the outside like standard potting. This GREATLY reduces microphonics and movement inside the coil and has zero effect on the top end, regardless of what some nerd on a forum might tell you!
