Extremely rare. From the very best time period of Gurian Guitars, the early 1980s, comes this understatedly supreme Gurian Flamenco Model. Michael Gurian started his career as a luthier in the classical guitar world and the individual guitars he made in the 1960s, before starting his production models, are considered to be amongst the finest of collectors’ instruments today. While the later production guitars were by and large steel-string versions there are a few classical models that were absolutely the best and best-built American factory classics ever. Almost all of them were straight classics with mahogany or rosewood back and sides; a very, very few were Flamenco versions. The back and sides of this instrument are of the traditional wood for Flamenco guitars, yellow cedar (also known as North American cypress); the top is of red cedar, the neck Honduran mahogany; the fingerboard is ebony; the bridge Brazilian rosewood; the nut and saddle genuine ivory; and the tuning machines are gold-plated Van Gant, a most revered Dutch maker. Van Gants are the only tuning machines that Michael Gurian ever used on any of his classic guitars. Overall condition is remarkable with only the very fewest of tiny nicks and scratches, almost indiscernible. Playability is superb in exactly the way that Flamenco players demand, low and fast. The frets are unworn. I have not seen one of these Flamenco Gurians come on the market for at least thirty years and cannot imagine another coming available anytime soon, if at all. This is a unique opportunity to own an iconic example of American lutherie. $2295 w/hsc
