Cindy Hulej is an artist and luthier working for ten years alongside master-builder Rick Kelly at Carmine Street Guitars in New York City's West Village under her own brand Cindy Guitars. Standing at number 42 on the block, the quaint Federal style building has certainly seen its fair share of creative history throughout the course of its existence. Used as a speakeasy during Prohibition, it would later see years of service as a neighborhood cabinet maker's workshop and set designer's studio before ultimately becoming home to one of the guitar world's most famed attractions for the last three decades. Today, the location continues to serve as a monument to an older, more unique slice of the city's cultural landscape, as well as an entire trade itself.
Cindy and Rick have made guitars for musicians such as Michael Imperioli, Jim Jarmusch, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Kurt Vile, Motley Crüe, G.E. Smith, and many more.
