Though Washburn is better-known for acoustic and folk instruments, their electric guitar player roster would suggest a deeper pedigree into the realm of rock and roll., from Nuno Bettencourt to Dimebag Darrell, from Jennifer Batten to Rudy Sarzo, from KT Tunstall to Ola Englund, whose Washburn signature instrument later evolved into the shred-&-djent focused Solar brand.
The Idol series is an original body design from Washburn first introduced in the late 1990's. A unique take on the single-cut paying homage to both LP-styling and T-styling alike, the Idol is an unsung hero among guitars of this era, having never found a high-profile player to be its champion. Nonetheless, the Idol found itself to be a favorite amongst players seeking a comfortable and highly-playable instrument that didn't break the budget,
The Idol WI-STD has similar specs to the more ubiquitous analog, with a Mahogany neck and a carved-top Mahogany body capped with a Cherry Burst Maple-veneered Maple cap. The neck bears pearloid Washburn headstock graphics and a streaky Rosewood fingerboard bearing Washburn's "Wing" inlays with a touch of abalone accent at the 12th fret. The stop-bar tailpiece and Tune-O-Matic-style bridge combo on a 24.75" scale should also be familiar, and tuning is kept in place with Grover-style full-sized tuners. The control layout is again familiar, with an upper-bout-mounted 3-wat toggle and 2 Volume/2 Tone pots. Somewhere in its lifespan, a player breathed some extra life into the electronics compliment and installed a set of Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion pickups wound by notable SD winder Lidia Daniels.
Though this Idol may not have the silhouette of your dreams, strap it on and be prepared for a formidable wild ride with this darkhorse guitar.

This guitar is in Very Good "Player's" condition, showing signs of light-to-moderate use and careful storage. There are some light scratches on the back and edges of the guitar -which are more apparent visually due to the gloss black finish- and a moderate-but-structurally-sound dent near the output jack. There is some pickwear on the top and some very light dents which we have attempted to capture in photographs. There is a light stand bump on the back on the neck that is easily visible -again due to the gloss black finish- but does not affect playability. The faces of the pickups show some light pickwear. The chrome domed control knobs have some light scratches. The rear control plates still retain their original protective plastic. This package is complete with a Gator hard case.
