Violin Super Small Playable 10 1/4 Inches Long 1/128?? Full Purfling with Bow and Case
Check out this super small 1/128? scale perhaps violin with bow and case.
It's 10 1/4 inches long. Body 5 3/4 wide. 10 inch bow. The strings are G - .021" D - .016" A .011" E - .007"
I had the tail repaired and the bridge raised to make it playable.
There is no label or makers mark. Somewhat of a mystery violin. I took it to David Bromberg's violin ship in Delaware and the techs there were somewhat mystified as well. They did say it has full inlaid purfling and is intended to be a player, not just a miniature or model. They were very impressed with the scroll work at the head.
Their best guess is that a builder made it 'to see if it could be done.' Not practical as a player or sound output. They also said while they couldn't give an age range, it is "not new"
The case intrigues me as much as the instrument. Brown felt lined and padded, metal reinforcement strap on the bottom. The same attention to detail and craftsmanship used on the instrument.
I got this about 15 years ago at an auction and it's time for it to have a new home.
A one-of-a-kind piece for your collection, not to mention a conversation piece.
