Northwest Vintage Guitars is proud to present this lovely Vox Mark VI fresh out of storage with the original case, bridge cover, and the string damper. Vox had incredible success during the 60's in the guitar starved British market. When their marketing department gifted a Vox Teardrop to Brian Jones, demand went crazy. Their guitars were so popular that by 1965 they couldn't keep up with production. Some of the production was shifted to EKO of Italy in 1965 and eventually EKO took over most production by 1967. This one is from that 65-67 era made in Italy. She received a proper cleaning, truss rod adjustment, and action adjustment. The original electronics were cleaned, fretboard rejuvenated, and now she's a showstopper! Her voice is the British Invasion through and through. Think jangly Beatles riffs and early Stones honky rhythm punches. We could totally see it on a Tom Petty style song. But wait, there's more - the two front knobs are Treble roll-offs for the front two pickups and that's where you can leave the British Invasion behind and get into some serious tonal exploration. Warm, punchy and with a little thump on the darker end of the roll-off. Gibson-esque Mini HB/Firebird territory is attainable. It's one of those guitars that surprises you with it's playability and tonal palette.
The neck sports a typical 60's thin taper carve, it tops out less than .90" at the 12th. But more importantly, it's straight and clean. One spot on the back of the neck has been filled and you can see it, but can't feel it. The 25.25" scale is easy to play with the 1.67" nut. The truss rod has been adjusted for optimum relief and action is low and ready to go. It plays cleanly up and down the neck and the whammy bar does what the whammy does. There's a lot of life left in those vintage original frets and no divots or gouges. Really a clean specimen that deserves to be played.
She's fairly complete. The Bridge/Mute/Cover contraption is quite the little puzzle and there is a lot of pieces as pictured - not sure if they are all there but when is the last time you've even seen one? And the Vox branded bridge cover is just so cool. The pickguard has shrunk and been repaired over time and one of the mounting screw holes was re drilled.
The snap on back padded cover is completely intact and the finish is good beneath it. This one doesn't have significant amounts of large checking and finish cracking typical of this model. She has a few scattered dents as pictured, but she's in real great shape if you know these Vox's. Comes with the original case with all the latches and hinges working.
You can rest assured that your guitar will arrive safely. Every guitar is detuned and securely fixed inside the case, the fretboard is protected, the headstock is wrapped, and the Aeris packing system keeps it safe inside a new shipping box.
