A nice J. C. Haynes Tilton Parlor Guitar with original Coffin Case, serial #3136 offered for sale here. The guitar is in overall very good condition (the flash from the digital camera sometimes brings out marks that are not visible to the naked eye), I just had the back reglued this month as it was separated in a few spots, so the guitar is in nice condition and ready for playing. As seen in the photos, there is wear and some dings on the spruce top and some surface cracks and repaired cracks on the rosewood back, all are tight and sound. The back of the neck shows play wear between the 1st and 5th frets, and the neck is a slim and comfortable, a gentle "C" shape. There is light fret wear and some wear to the fret board. The tuners work well and hold tune. The guitar has a 24 and 3/4 inch scale, a 11 and 1/2 inch lower bout, a 1 and 3/4 inch neck width at the neck, and a 3 and 3/8 inch depth body.
As heard in the You Tube video, this is a sweet sounding guitar, great for acoustic finger style playing. The guitar is remarkably good shape for its age, a scarce historic early high end model produced by the John C Haynes Company in Boston MA over 150 years ago.

This is from the Bay State Guitar web site pertaining to these guitars...

"Tilton ‘Improvement’ Guitars were made from 1856 and were an innovative design with a tailpiece and floating bridge with an internal reinforcement bar that runs the length of the instrument's body under, but not connected to, the top. This construction allowed for the top to be very lightly braced. These guitars employed other distinctive features and were very successful during their day. They are still held in great regard today because of their design and fine craftsmanship and are rare to find in their original condition."

The original coffin case is in fair condition, it is not very useful, fairly primitive "latches that do not stay hooked and some of the joints of the case are loose and could use a regluing. It is included in the sale as it is the original case, I would recommend the new owner purchase a new, appropriately sized case the guitar will snugly fit in.

The pictures pretty much tell the story, if you have any questions pertaining to the items, feel free to ask them.  I have described this guitar accurately and am selling it as is with no returns due to its age and vintage condition.

Shipping cost is based on West Coast Zip Codes, I now have a FedEx account, contact me with your address and Zip Code before committing to buy and I will send you an exact  shipping quote with insurance. Thank you.
