From the Origninal Description by Half-Blind Charlie, the builder. - I purchased it in 2017
"Sometime around the turn of the 20th century, when the blues were in their infancy, many of the talented pioneers of the genre were unable to afford a conventional instrument. To overcome this they learned to improvise by building from available materials - cigar boxes, scrap lumber, baling wire, nails, and whatever else was available. These early instruments are considered by many to be folk art.
What I have attempted to do is recreate the "mojo" of these early instruments in a more conventional package. Much of the labor on this guitar was done without the benefit of modern power tools. Because of that, there are over 60 hours of work in this particular instrument. Here are the details:
- Body - Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Cigar Box.
- Solid red oak through-the-box neck.
- Whitetail deer volume knob.
- Bone nut and saddle.
- Antique brass box corners, sound holes and string ferrules.
- Vintage style open back tuners with aged white knobs.
- Hand pressed frets.
- Hand burnished fret dots and side dots.
- Custom "Scorpio" headstock logo.
- Jute (adjustable) string strap.
What I have attempted to do is capture the spirit of those early musicians. When you watch the video you will quickly learn that I am a novice slide player and a horrible video maker. I hope that you can get enough out of it to at least have an idea of what the instrument sounds like.
Please ask all the questions you have before buying. Thanks for looking."
