Walrus Audio's Melee Wall of Noise takes a fun and unique approach to two of the most commonly used effects, reverb and distortion. Living up to its name, this pedal blends cavernous reverbs with gut-punching distortion, making it great for conjuring massive, cinematic sounds. If you're the type of player who loves creating thick, experimental textures while simultaneously melting faces, the Melee is an excellent choice.

Starting with the elephant in the room, the Melee features a large joystick that controls the blend of the reverb and distortion effects. Move it up and down to adjust the distortion, and move it left and right to blend in the reverb. Not only does this control make it easy to visualize your wet/dry mix, but it's also a really entertaining way to tweak your sound.

Beyond the mix joystick, the Melee takes a "less is more" approach to its interface. The tone toggle changes the Melee's sound from dark to bright, while the decay toggle increases the length of its reverb trail. Players can also add modulation to their signal by moving the decay toggle while holding down the bypass switch. And for folks looking to completely change the Melee's sonic character, it has a toggle that flips the order of the reverb and distortion.

Don't let this pedal's lack of knobs fool you, though - by simultaneously pressing the bypass and sustain switches, users can choose between three different reverb algorithms that give it tons of sonic versatility. With Ambient Reverb selected (Pink LED), the Melee delivers huge, washed-out effects, perfect for shoegaze riffs. In the Octave Down mode (Yellow LED), an eerie lower octave sits underneath your playing, thickening out your sound with dark, atmospheric textures. The final algorithm, Reverse Reverb with Feedback (Blue LED), adds reversed reverb trails to your signal and is excellent for performing big, somber chords.

Complete with a sustain switch that allows users to ramp their reverb or sustain it endlessly, the Walrus Audio Melee is perfect for adventurous players seeking an incredibly unique reverb and distortion pedal.
