Moog Sub Phatty

It's a Sub Phatty! Moog soft case included because that's the way to do it.

I use it for leads, basses, sub basses, and kicks. Mostly synth basses.

In a pinch it's like having a synth bass in a single box that's easy to use and has enough oscillators and modulators to grind out the hardest, most unnerving basses that smash the rest of the mix, or a quick clean sub to give size to an already almost complete arrangement. The Sub Phatty is a little different from the other Sub sisters and to me seems like it took the same skeleton and said, ok, for people who want an instrument focused on synth basses, what else could we give them? The distortion circuit can be overdriven more, and the two main oscillators can be driven (or not) depending on if you keep their gain to the left or to the right of 12 o'clock. More or less - read the manual for specifics.

It's so, so fast to use. So many synths slow me down. Not this one. Feels like an instrument. Run through a few presets to find something in the ballpark, start turning knobs, and go.

Even though it's monophonic, it has multiple oscillators, so you can make 5th leads. Metropol Grand - Full Light - Waterfall has a lead sound that's straight off this synth. If you're new to Moog, you might be pleasantly surprised by the input where you can pass outboard audio through the Moog filter and gate it with the keys.

It also works fine as a midi controller when you're short on desk space, though I find Moog's touch curve to be too sensitive and needing a velocity curve on the DAW/VSTi side so I can really hit the keys like a piano when triggering a piano. For example.
