About This Listing

From past Ronin and Pensa Custom guitars luthiers Izzy Lugo and his mentor Vinnie Saccocio comes Fiam Guitars. This guitar is their new take on one of Izzy’s most loved creations, the Ronin Mirari. Now featuring Fiam's new Fiambucker (aka F5) pickups which were designed in close collaboration with David Torn. This model is now referred to as the Fiam Mirari F5. This particular Mirari F5 is finished in Aztec Gold over Silver with a medium relic and 3-ply parchment guard.

Physically the F5 features many of the same ingredients found in the original Mirari. Such as a body built from 900 + years old Old Growth Redwood and a Honduran Mahogany neck, keeping these instruments both lightweight and resonant. Each piece of wood used is hand chosen by Izzy and Vinnie for the best possible weight, rigidity and of course tone. The fretwork and setup are both impeccable.

The Fiambucker pickups possess tonal qualities all their own. Instead of using two Gold Foil type coils like with the Foilbucker, these new pickups are based around two P-90 type coils. They have a unique spongy and ethereal characteristic, some would say "airy" while at the same time sounding very substantial and full. They are a medium output pickup that can really drive a tube amp if you want them to, but wont ever overload you with too much bass or muddy up your tone. They offer a wide tonal range due to their asymmetrically wound coils.

Winding one coil per pickup much stronger than the other allows for the humbucking tones to still sound crisp and bell-like. It also allows you to split each pickup without a noticeable drop in volume. The Fiambucker can have a near acoustic-like quality and is highly sensitive to your pick attack. These pickups also love drive and fuzz pedals. They can be gritty, warm and full bodied or become brighter and more focused with the push of either one of the two coil-split or high pass filter buttons.

It's as if you have three different gain stages at your fingertips. Start out with your full humbucking tone, then press one of the coil taps and then try incorporating one of the HPF buttons. The great tones are near infinite and the control layout becomes very intuitive once you are seated with the instrument.

Here is what David Torn has said about his Fiam Mirari F5's tone: “This guitar is more USEFULLY broad-in-scope than any guitar I've ever played. Fantastic base tones & outrageous responsiveness. No useless tones, the pickups can feel super-powered or they can feel like they’re wide-open low-outputters. + the magic button!” - David Torn

A new addition to the Fiam Mirari not found on previous Ronin models is the Vega Tremolo system. It is set up to float with two balanced low friction springs. This guitar also has an upgraded "Torn" trem route which allows for extreme pull back; as much as two and a half whole steps with open strings. These guitars also stay in tune absolutely beautifully; even with heavy use of the tremolo system.

This F5 also features "The Magic Button" option. The Magic Button is essentially a piezo contact mic placed inside of the body and connected to a push button. This unique feature allows you to get an acoustic or dobro like sound out of your guitar. You can also get much more experimental with it and tap on the body for rhythmic looping or scratch at the springs for an unusual sound effect.
