Nice clean version 2 amp circa 2006. Version 2 corrected numerous issues with the original, however, it still had some odd design choices which I addressed while "Fender-izing" the preamp circuit. Among other things it increased gain to the preamp tube, smoothing out the flubbiness, cooled the overly hot, IMHO, power tube bias, took out some of the signal weakening design choices and most importantly, upgraded the output transformer making the amp louder overall with with better tone (more highs and more lows, definitely not a Bose). See the schematic images for a "before" and "after" view of the circuit. Check out the YouTube video to hear it.
Upgrades
- Replaced stock output transformer with a Hammond 125ESE.
- Added Master Volume - Replaced R5 (220K) with a 500K pot.
Circuit Modifications
- Grid stopper for 1st half of 12AX7 - Replaced R2 (68K) with 33K.
- Removed R1 (68K).
- Added 1M resistor to ground on input jack.
- V1A cathode bias resistor - Replaced R8 (2.2k) with 1.5K.
- V1B cathode bias resistor - Replaced R9 (2.2k) with 1.5K.
- V2 cathode bias resistor - Replaced R14 (220 ohm 1 watt) with a 250 ohm resistor to cool bias and extend power tube life.
- Voltage divider signal loss - Replaced R6 with jumper and removed R7 entirely.
- Added 100k grid stopper resistor between volume out and V1B grid.
