About The Material These Picks Are Made From:

Plectrums made from stone have been used traditionally throughout the world since the dawn of stringed instruments millennia ago. Jasper is an aggregate form of microgranular quartz crystal and chalcedony with up to 20% of the stone being composed of varying mineral inclusions. Jasper is generally mostly opaque and can appear in almost any color, but is most commonly found in red, yellow, brown, green or occasionally blue. Jasper can feature a wide range of colors with respect to its inclusions as well, with the secondary minerals found within it determining the color. It is found in hydrothermal reefs, volcanic rocks, and sedimentary rocks. Jasper’s name originates from the Greek word iaspis, which means spotted or speckled stone.

Jasper has been used by humans since ancient times, and has been valued for its aesthetic qualities as well as its healing and metaphysical properties for thousands of years. Jasper was a favorite gemstone in antiquity, and was used by the Ancient Greeks, Persians, Assyrians, Arabs, Minoans, and others. Civilizations all around the world prize Jasper for use in jewelry, beads, seals, vases, amulets, rings, and other ornaments.

Kiwi Jasper is a light blue-green gemstone with black and semi-translucent crystalline spot inclusions. Kiwi Jasper was only discovered in 2014, and derives its name from the fact that it originates in New Zealand. Kiwi Jasper is also sometimes referred to as Sesame Jasper, although that name is usually reserved for examples with less of the distinctive blue-green coloration it is known for, or simply Kiwi Stone. There is some debate as to whether or not Kiwi Jasper is a “true” Jasper as it contains a mix of Jasper and other constituents not typically found in Jasper (Amazonite and Tourmaline), but what is certain is that it’s an eye catching gemstone! Although somewhat similar in appearance to the more cream colored Dalmatian Jasper, Kiwi Jaspers pale mint like color makes it stand out from other previously available Jaspers, and it has become a very popular gemstone since its discovery.

Kiwi Jasper is a hard and durable stone, with a 6.5-7 rating on the Mohs hardness scale, which makes it a fantastic and long lasting material for use in guitar picks.
