Okay okay. I know. This thing might be the weirdest guitar ever. Once upon a time, there was this Hair Metal band from GA called SouthGang. They didn’t really fare well in the glam rock storm that would end shortly after this guitar was built. But it did start the freshly paved road for a young Butch Walker (me?), who would continue to make new music and produce and write records for lots of other artists for several years to come.
Smooth (up in ya) transition here.. right into talking about this 6 string Unicorn. Conklin is an independent guitar company (based out of Missouri) that makes some wild guitars. They made this guitar for me and i used it on the first SouthGang tour and it’s also in a very low budget video for a song off the debut album called “Boys Night Out”.
Alas, the guitar probably looks better than it plays, but it’s interesting and one of a kind to say the least.
The finish is like faux granite (maybe plaster?), and it has a Robin “Floyd rose style” tremolo on it. Seems to work well still, but the tremolo bar got lost along with most of the artists’ hair from that era. The pickups i believe are all Seymour Duncan.
I don’t have much to say here except i GUARANTEE you will not find another one of these puppies out there.
Use it. Play it. Hang it on your wall. Bonus points if your first and last initials are “SG”! Now hurry up and buy this piece of “Hairstory” before Seth Green calls…
Available in Nashville area (by a seller broker) or shipping on your dime.
Viva La Vito Bratta!
