About This Listing

Up for sale, a 2000s Mosrite Ventures Model Mark I 1965 vintage reissue model V-65 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtag and warranty card, and a circa 1960s Mosrite case. A stunningly accurate iteration of the Ventures model platform with every tiny detail accounted for and perfectly executed, this rare Mosrite retains all the essential features of the '65 Ventures Model with smooth knobs and embossed pickup covers, a dark multi-ply tortoise pickguard, "Ventures" logo on the headstock, and a sandcast Vibramute tailpiece.

The stock pair of single coil pickups have ample power and midrange content, wound properly to vintage-spec and metering at just under 12k ohms. These single coils are meaty and rich, with tons of twang and a broad bass register not often afforded a single coil, providing an authoritative sound that's quintessential Mosrite. Weighing 8lbs 13oz, this Mosrite has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

Few guitars have a more storied history than the Mosrite brand, especially in the modern era, and this particular guitar is a very rare, upper-tiered model crafted by Fillmore in Japan. Perhaps best known for being imported to the USA by Ed Roman and also for their partnership with Dana Moseley, Mosrite founder Semie Moseley's daughter, Fillmore purported that these instruments were "USA-made" (whether this referred to components and/or assembly is a real gray area), yet this instrument's origin is definitively with the Fillmore factory in Japan. Most importantly, this Mosrite is an extremely finely crafted instrument, worthy of Semie Moseley's legacy, and Fillmore's Mosrite reissues are among the closest ever offered to '60s spec in their tonal response and features, with tight tolerances and exquisite fit and finish work.

The highly figured flame maple neck has a very slender C shape with round shoulders in every register, measuring .820” deep just beyond the prominent volute, and .925” at the 12th fret. On the bound rosewood fretboard, the original slender frets show moderate, uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-3, with wear extending and growing fainter beneath the G and B strings until fret 7. The neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale. The fretboard measures 1 9/16" in width at the zero fret just forward of the aluminum nut. The headstock features the Ventures Model text, and the genuine Grover Deluxe Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly. The serial number is stamped on the last fret into the rosewood.

On the body, all of the stock electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints. The '65 look is rounded out with embossed pickup covers and chrome-plated metal Mosrite knobs machined with smooth tops (the design that predated the "M" knobs). The “Vibramute” vibrato is extremely smooth and elegant, touch-sensitive in its responsiveness and made to exacting vintage spec with a sandcast base and chrome-plated string anchor and arm with the correct "elbow." Plastics include a thick, dark two-ply tortoise pickguard which shows some requisite pick scuffing.

The gloss Pearl White gloss finish is exceedingly clean, with just a couple small nicks on the back and lower bout body edge. The ambered gloss on the flame maple neck is flawless.

A vintage circa-1960s Mosrite hardshell case with brown faux alligator tolex, brown leather ends and red plush interior is included, along with the original Mosrite Fillmore serialized warranty card and hangtag
