I purchased this locally from an older lady last year who had inherited
it from her deceased brother 11 years earlier. She described her brother as a "collector" who had bought the insturment new, but
did not play guitar.
I am inclined to give this story some
credit based on the condition of the guitar. Other than a scratch on the
pick guard, a ding near the tuning keys, and a very light minor
scratch on the back, it looks virtually untouched. There is no fret wear
and the case looks almost new.
I had planned on keeping it as a
backup to another MVII I own, but have decided to thin the herd a
little. I played it once for 5 minutes and it sounds really fantastic.
It was setup at a reputable local shop by a technician I know, mainly
to have a professional eye ensure there were no defects or
abnormalities. None were reported. They even gave me a Gibson box to
ship it in.
I feel this Gibson MVII is as close to new as one will get.
