Kent/Guyatone Japan Les Paul 1975 Sunburst

Here I have another awesome 1970's, Made in Japan, Les Paul. Kent, manufactured by Guyatone in Sunburst finish. The front is very clean. The back has some minor usage marks around the edges but is in great condition otherwise. The electronics are working as they should and are quiet. The pickups are single coils. I've seen this before. It was cheaper to put 1 less coil in the humbucker than design a whole new P90 style soap bar pickup. They are definitely thicker sounding than a standard single coil, more like a P90. Subsequently, I don't think the factory paid much attention to the polarity of the coils. These pickups are the same polarity and are out of phase. Therefore, in the middle position, if you equalize the volume on both, the pickups, the pickups will be noticeably out of phase as if there was a phase switch. Sounds awesome.

5 ply binding on the front and pick guard. Single ply on the headstock, neck and back. Carved maple top with chambered mahogany body and neck. A much more comfortable weight (9 lbs.). These are not the original tuners but are period correct. The originals appear to have been 3 on a side bar tuners. All of the electronics have been serviced and a new three way switch installed.

Collectors and knowledgeable players know the quality manufacturing that went into these MIJ clones and other MIJ guitars from the 60's and 70's.

This is a great guitar for a first guitar. It has legendary and collectible 1970's Japanese quality at a price well below a new standard LP from Gibson. Being a collectible guitar they won't want to sell it to get another guitar. They may hold on to it for many years. And if they don't take to it, it's easy to sell and not $1000 that will drop 15% as soon as you walk out of Guitar Center.
