Very rare 1965 vintage Rickenbacker Rose Morris 1998 in Fireglo.

Great playing guitar and a must for an early Who / Pete Townsend fan.

For those of you that don't know these guitars were specially made for the UK market and distributed through Rose Morris - a well known Music Store in London that miraculously still exists.  The guitars were made with traditional f shaped sound-holes rather than Ric's signature slashes as Rose Morris thought the regular sound holes were just too futuristic and wacky for us Brits and would not complement our tweeds and bowlers too well, ... or something like that.

This guitar is not in pristine condition - it has been gigged by someone who wanted to be like Pete Townsend! - The guitar even once had an extra kill switch added just like Pete's. This had been removed before I bough the guitar and I haven't bothered to put in a switch.  It is just possible that this was owned by the man himself and survived being smashed to pieces.  I even have a trapeze tailpiece from an old Gibson 175 semi that I never got round to fitting so it exactly matched Pete's iconic guitar in that famous Who poster.   I could be persuaded to include this for the right price.  The guitar has lots of wear and buckle rash and a cigarette burn mark on the headstock and the slight glue marks from a round sticker (most probably a Mod style target, one imagines). The upper level pickguard has lost its corner - replacements are easy to source.

The guitar plays very well and sounds amazing - the fretboard is mostly worn or sanded back to rosewood and re-fretted very cleanly with chunky frets - this creates a lovely playing surface if you don't like the glossy finish (which I don't).  As is typical of old Rickenbacker's the neck has moved a bit and so the bridge is set quite low to the body to give a good playing action. There is still a couple of mm of travel and I have not had to adjust the bridge or truss rod in the 12 years I have owned the guitar so I think it is now stable.  The guitar comes with it's original black case.

The serial number date production to February 1965 and the pots are date coded late 1964.

I bought this guitar from Olivia's Vintage in the US back in 2005.

The guitar can be tried before you buy or if you have any questions or need other photos let me know.  I listed as collection only but I am happy to arrange a courier at the buyers expense.
