===========================================

This Galanti branded guitar was made in the USA circa 1969 by Guild using parts from various models, time periods, and manufacturers. It’s a 60’s Guild Starfire fully hollow single cutaway body with a bolted on mid 60’s Magnatone neck and two T-100D style Guild pickups. Several examples of this model have turned up on the East Coast in recent years and all are in this cherry red finish and have the same exact mix of parts. It’s all-original and comes with the original chipboard case.

Notes from previous owner

The body...looks like a solid maple back with laminate top and sides. No cracks or issues

  • The tailpiece...is a late 50’s/early 60’s nickel model made by Waverly
  • The pickups...are chrome T-100D “Slim Jim” models that Guild introduced in 1966
  • The pickup switch is nickel and from the same time period as the tailpiece
  • The knobs...are black late 60’s bonnet style
  • The bridge is a standard Guild rosewood arch top adjustable model compensated for a wound G string
  • The neck is a 25.5 inch scale bolt on model made for the Magnatone “Starstream” series that was available from ’65 to ’67 and then discontinued. There was no nut on these guitars. The neck is slotted and there’s a zero fret. Magnatone used a metal plate screwed to the fingerboard to hold the strings down.
  • This instrument uses a Hagstrom down pressure bar and there is no truss rod cover.
  • neck width at the top is 1 and 11/16 inches.
  • The tuners...are the unusual nickel 6 on a plate in-line double line Klusons that were standard on the Magnatone Tornado and Typhoon guitars.
  • The neck plate is another Magnatone part. These were stamped with a serial number and that number is also written on the label inside the body.
  • The label is a Guild Hoboken label but this guitar was almost certainly assembled in Westerly, R.I. Apparently it was common practice to use the old labels up through 1970 or so...
  • The case...is in good condition with some tarnishing on the latches but they all work and the handle is good.

"This guitar was purchased from the original owner who bought it new when he enrolled at a local music school in 1970. My understanding is the school had a number of these to sell...which is probably where Galanti came in...Somehow a bunch of leftover bodies, surplus necks, and extra parts came together and were assembled into a batch of these Galanti guitars which were then most likely sold directly to music schools in the New England area. It was common practice for music schools to offer instruments as well as lessons to beginners.

This guitar is absolutely untouched...no mods, no repairs, not a screw changed. Everything is original and the electronics are all working correctly. The neck is straight as an arrow and the frets are perfect. The action is nice and low but there’s plenty of room for bridge adjustment up or down. The finish is gorgeous and the only flaw
anywhere on it is a little bit of checking on the bottom side only near the jack." - PK
