1956 Gibson LG-2 Vintage Acoustic Guitar Sunburst, X-Braced & Crack-Free w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1956 Gibson LG-2 in exceptional, crack-free condition and in perfect working order. A well-kept and stunning-sounding golden age Gibson, this LG-2 features a solid X-braced spruce top, solid Honduran mahogany back, sides, and one-piece neck with a proper "baseball bat" profile carve, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.

A miniature cannon with incredible projection, this LG-2 fills a room with a single strum, yielding a sound that is both warm and clear. Very balanced and detailed, the wound and plain strings have equal presence. The trebles have a round, punchy quality with a sparkling snap that’s never brittle or overly bright, while the wound strings have a sweetness and breadth. The guitar has a dry, percussive cut, and woody bark when you dig in hard with a flatpick, while also being sympathetic to fingerpicking, offering the kind of open, worked-in sound that only comes with time and careful use. Featherweight at 3lbs 15oz, we've had this LG-2 professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 12-53 strings, dialed in for comfortable action and accurate intonation.

The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a proper "baseball bat" C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .910" deep at the 1st fret and 1.010" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the stock slender banjo fretwire which is in excellent condition, exhibiting only very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 and faint corresponding wear into the rosewood in this area as well. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock face retains the original truss rod cover and gold Gibson silkscreen, and the headstock is currently fitted with a modern set of Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners. The original Klusons are also included (not pictured) and turn smoothly with replacement white buttons.

On the top, the stock Brazilian rosewood bridge is intact, sitting flush with the spruce on all edges, with very minimal deflection of the top on the lower bout. A new carved and compensated bone saddle has been installed, and the finish is undisturbed where the neck meets the body. Remarkably, this LG-2 has never necessitated a neck reset. Action sits at 7/64" on the bass side at the 12th fret, and 5/64" on the treble side. Visible through the soundhole, the V-prefix factory order number is intact on the heel block, dating to 1956.

The original Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, accented by the original transparent dark tortoise pickguard which sits flush on all edges. The lacquer finish is still positively glossy in its presentation, with some requisite pick wear across the strum path and into the spruce on the treble-side edge of the soundhole. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some very small dings and faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss, largely relegated to the back and body perimeter. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is exceedingly clean, with minor wear through the gloss from contact with the palm along the fretboard edges from frets 1-5.

A modern premium Cedar Creek hardshell case with black crushed velvet interior and Lifton-style mottled brown exterior is included.
