Double bound Telecasters are stunning! Such a simple design element as edge binding totally transforms the way a Tele looks. First introduced around 1959 as a fancier version of the Telecaster and called Custom Telecaster, these guitars were also sporting maple necks with rosewood fretboards, that were considered at that time more classic-looking and also praised for slower wear compared to lacquered maple fretboards. Binding was introduced not just as a design-element, reminiscent of the early jazz archtop guitars, but also as a simple solution to body edge wear.
Traditional finish for the Custom Telecaster was 3-tone sunburst, but you could also order almost any other custom colour back in the 1960s. That included an uber-rare combination of cream white body and black binding! Here we have a Fender Japan recreation of that stunning design - the white tuxedo Telecaster!
The Tele for sale was made in Japan in 2015 as part of a limited run for Japan domestic market, and comes in stunning near mint condition, with only a tiny blemish near the output jack and on the top of headstock. Alder body is not too heavy and very resonant and looks striking with that 3-ply mint green pickguard.
C-shape maple neck has medium-size back shape and rosewood fretboard with lovely grain pattern and vintage-accurate 7.25-inch radius. Original frets have very light use, Kluson slotted tuners work smoothly and the synthetic bone nut is well cut. Real pleasure to play!
Original Fender Japan single-coil pickups reproduce that warmer tone of the 60s. Neck pickup is mellow yet detailed, bridge pickup punchy and bright and middle position providing the balance of both. Wired via a 3-way switch and volume and tone control, these can handle almost any genre and style of playing thanks to their wonderful clarity and sustain. This Tele even has that funny "top-hat" switch tip - just like in the golden days!
Vintage-style "ashtray" bridge guarantees rock-solid tuning and great string to body vibration transmission. Steel saddles with multiple ridges were also first introduced on Custom Telecasters back in the early 1960s. These allow to slightly alter the string spacing by moving the strings to a different slot, which might be handy for certain styles of playing.
This instrument received a full professional setup with deep body cleaning, body polish, neck deep clean, full electronics check, truss-rod and action and intonation adjustment. Restringed with D'addario 10-46 Nickel-plated steel strings.
Please note that although we put our heart and soul and also all our knowledge into every single guitar we sell, a setup is a personal preference. However, we try to get the best playability out of every guitar and set them up so you can play both rhythm and lead. We also pull them all apart to clean and check every single component and replace all unreliable parts with new ones, from dodgy pots to the whole wiring, tuners, string trees, nuts and etc. All the work done is described in detail in the listing.
We make sure that every guitar we sell is problem free and take full responsibility for the accuracy of our listing descriptions. All photographs are done by a professional photographer and processed on a calibrated monitor. Some colours might look slightly different on your monitor, but we will always put the official Fender colour name in the listing description, so please study pictures of other guitars with the same colour if you are unsure. We focus on finding great quality guitars and making them reliable and inspiring to play.
