This Used 1980 Gibson Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar in Natural is here on consignment. For its age, the guitar is in very nice shape. It is cleaner than average and is free from any severe wear or tear. The neck is straight, the original frets are still crowned, and the truss rod is functioning properly. Included with the guitar is the original hardshell case.
Although the early 1980s aren't considered Gibson's most favorable by many, that doesn't mean that they didn't produce some AWESOME guitars during that time frame! When you think about it, we've undoubtedly been listing to numerous instruments from the 80s on many of our favorite recordings. The Maple neck material, a softer dish carved on the top, a larger headstock, and a volute on the back of the neck are all telltale signs of the era in which it was created.
The neck is made from Maple and measures .85" in depth at the 1st fret and .97 at the 12th fret. The fingerboard is made from Rosewood and it has a 12" fingerboard radius. The neck is bound with a single ply of binding. A set of beautiful and rather deep-looking Mother-of-Pearl Trapezoid Fingerboard Inlays grace the dark rosewood fingerboard.
A pair of T-Top Humbuckers come in their original covers. These would be the stamped bottom plate versions. 2 Volume controls, 2 tone controls, and a 3-way pickup selector switch provide easy access to all the tones you'll need. There is a big misnomer going on about "Tim Shaw" pickups. Tim Shaw did make a handful of pickups, and he actually signed them. ALL of the rest of the pickups are just plain ole production made. NOT made by Tim Shaw. So we call these Tim Shaw era pickups, because that's all they are. Gibson first used the patent number on the decal in the mid '60's and then in the mid '70's machine stamped the patent number into the base plate. Then during the Shaw era they in addition to the patent number, added an ink stamped date. So this Les Paul has the T-tops, patent stamp and the ink date stamp.
Nobody treats used guitars as we do at The Music Gallery! Every trade-in goes through an inspection, gets cleaned, then some fresh strings, and a full set-up before being put up for sale. We often even put guitars with worn frets through our Plek machine if need be! Rest assured, any Used Guitar from The Music Gallery has certainly passed its physical!
