This is an old top tier student model sitar, "ladies' model", or no. 2 model sitar from the 60s from the shop of Hemen Sen in Kolkata.
With nearly top tier carving decoration and penwork, noticable but normal playwear, and very nice wood, it is a great sounding and playing instrument. there is normal playwear on the top face of the tabli, on the tumba (pumpkin resonantor), and in the French polish in the back of the neck.
It came from New York City where it belonged to an Indian lady who was no longer playing much as of the 1970s and was taken into the collection of a musician who's collection of Indian instruments I am selling for the family.
The instrument comes with a nicely fitting fiberglass case and a non original spun wood upper tumba resonator (not pictured).
I will restring and do pegwork as necessary if the buyer is paying close to full price. if it sells for much less it will ship as is. shipping will be packed well inside and outside the hardshell case in a proper shipping box, and around the case in the box.
