Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a somewhat rarer 1950's era Electro Voice 654 Dynamic microphone with dual impedance and was an excellent choice for broadcasting and singing at that time. You don't see too many of these mics around and they were quite expensive when they were sold by E.V being one of their higher end mics with excellent sound quality. The mic comes with the vintage 90's era cast iron desk stand shown.

Pic # 2 is from an older advertisement showing the mics basic specs.

Pic # 3 shows this very mic model being used by Dick Clark form American Bandstand. It was his go to mic for many years while hosting the show.

That being said the mic has been tested and while the original dynamic element works the mic lacks the correct amount of bass in the tone and only about75% signal strength. This mic really should only be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. It's priced cheap due to it's condition.

This microphone comes with the stock painted tube that shows a minimum of wear as does the chrome front grill. Electro Voice painted the mic as the all chrome bodies were not ideal for live T.V or televised events with the extreme glare the chrome would put off. The E.V badge looks pretty nice though. The front screen shows no tarnish or dents. The joint mechanism works fine and has a lot of tension to get just the right angle needed. This 654 is about a 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. though many would rate higher. Please let the very detailed pics be your guide.

The 654 takes a standard XLR cable which was very modern for it's time. It had the high and low Z switch option so that the user could get the correct sound according to his or her voice and the audio equipment being used. The impedance switch works just fine.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a cast iron vintage 1980's Chinese model based on the classic Atlas DS-5 model that was built in 1950 and still being sold today. This Chinese version shows just as much wear as the microphone. It's makes a very stable platform for the 654 and you can lower the upper portion of the mic completely without it tipping over.

It has a short 3 inch chrome riser. The total height with mic fully raised upright is appx 13 inches. The base itself is 6 inches wide.

As with all my vintage microphones...
