Very cool one-of-a-kind hot rod! The '51 combines aspects of several of Fender's best-known instruments. The body and neck pickup resemble that of the Fender Stratocaster, while the single-ply pickguard and the control plate is borrowed from the original incarnation of the Fender Precision Bass. The neck and headstock design are reminiscent of a Fender Telecaster.
She uses a humbucker in the bridge position and a Stratocaster-style single-coil pickup in the neck position. The bridge is slightly narrower than most US-made Fender guitars in order to line up better with the polepieces of the humbucker, which are designed for the narrower string spacing of Gibson-style guitars. The bridge pickup has a coil split, activated by pulling out on the volume control knob, to switch between single-coil and humbucker configuration. The second control knob, which normally would operate as a tone control on a Telecaster or early Precision Bass, is a three-position pickup selector switch for choosing between the neck alone, combined neck/humbucker, or humbucker alone. It has a six-saddle hardtail top-loading bridge, like the 70's-Style Hardtail Stratocaster Bridge. She features a basswood body, with a solid maple neck and fretboard.
The original owner sanded down the finish on the front and back of the body to the natural blonde wood grain & then clear coated it so it looks stock! The side of the body is the original black finish. The original owner also put a Fender USA logo on the headstock. The back of the headstock has a Fender Japan serial number. Includes Grover quick-release strap locks. The guitar was made in 2004 & is a Year One production. They only made this guitar for 2 years. Do not confuse this guitar with the Reissue!
Body - Basswood, nitrocellulose lacquer finish
Neck - Maple, modern "C" profile, maple fretboard, medium-jumbo frets, 1.65" nut, 9.5" radius, dot inlays, 25.5" scale length
Pickups / Hardware - 1 Single-coil, 1 Humbucker with coil split, master volume, custom three-way switch knob, 70's-style hardtail Stratocaster bridge, Grover quick-release strap locks
Playability - New strings come intonated, low action, plays great, and fret clearly across the board.
Cosmetic Condition - The body look great! Only when studying the instrument up close, you can see micro-scratches under the clear coat, caused from the sanding process. The side of the neck by the fret markers between the 1st and 3rd frets shows some minor checking. Doesn't affect the playability at all! The headstock has some tiny dings. The frets are nice and shiny!
