(NEW) We just got back from the lovely state of Maine, where the lobster was plentiful (and delicious) and where some of our favorite flattops come from. We could only be referring to Bourgeois Guitars, and it was a thrill to tour their amazing new facility, share stories and pick wood for our next round of custom builds. Did we bring anything back with us? I’m glad you asked! We brought back a couple of the best sounding guitars to hit our ears in a while, a pair of gorgeous JOM-Ts, the newest model in the Bourgeois lineup.

You may be familiar with Bourgeois’ legendary Orchestra Models, and some time ago they introduced their original Jumbo OM, which has a bigger lower bout and a deeper body, nicely bridging the gap between OM and dread. Recently, they developed a version of this model that combines the larger overall size of the original JOM with the thinner body depth of their standard OM… thus, the JOM-Thin was born, and this is truly an inspired development.

The JOM-T has an incredibly satisfying sound. It’s got more “oomph” than a regular OM, volume for days and a rich low end… but it is also perfectly balanced, with sparkle and impeccable articulation all over the fingerboard. It plays fingerstyle beautifully, but is an authoritative strummer as well, a true do-it-all guitar.

This example has a torrefied Adirondack spruce top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, 1 23/32″ nut and 2.2″ string spacing at the saddle. Standard full scale length, with ebony fingerboard and bridge pins and vintage herringbone purfling. Bourgeois’ modified V neck is one of the most comfortable profiles around, and the satin finish plays fast with no drag.

If you have been waiting for a guitar to come along with the voice of a large guitar and the comfort of a small one, this is what you’ve been waiting for. A home run from Bourgeois!
