Up for sale, a 1991 Fender Stratocaster ‘54 vintage reissue model ST54-650 in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, loaded with its original trio of USA-made Fender single coils. Produced at the famed Fujigen factory, this Fender Japan model was offered to the Japanese domestic market, rarely seen outside of its country of origin. The alder body and one-piece maple neck delivers a chiming, clear quality that translates well through the stock USA-made pickups, the same 57/62 single coils used in the American Vintage series instruments. Boasting black fiber bobbins, cloth-covered leads and staggered alnico magnets, these pickups deliver a vital range of vintage Strat tonalities via the three-way selector switch. The bridge pickup is sparkling and snappy, while the neck pickup has ideal fullness and bell-like top end. The guitar weighs 7lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The one-piece maple neck has a medium depth soft V-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1/4" vintage-spec radius with slender fretwire that retains its full factory height and only shows light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42.5mm in width (1.675"), and the headstock reflects features from 1954 including the round string tree and spaghetti logo. The Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text and L-prefix serial is present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck heel is pencil dated 12-21-91.

On the body, the electronics work as they should and the solder joints are untouched, with the stock pickups governed by the three-way pickup selector and standard Strat control array. The full-size Japanese pots date to 1991. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine with light patina on the “Fender”-embossed saddles, and the plastic parts include the one-ply white pickguard, which displays some scuffing along the pick path on the treble side, and original pickup covers and knobs. The gloss Black finish is practically perfect, with cosmetic wear limited to a few light scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is equally clean.

A padded Fender gigbag is included.
